Welcome to Sharon's Monthly Miss Fit Madness. This blog is dedicated to all of those amazing ladies out there that really don't like to workout and need to find something fun but still effective. So every month I will review an "alternative" fitness program and provide you with the pro's and the con's of each program. It will be reviewed based on safety, effectiveness and fun....I think we can all agree that I am a perfect person to start this blog; I am a WBFF pro fitness model, the owner of the premier alternative fitness studio in California, a certified personal training, have been affiliated with AFAA for over 16 years, am a pole fitness expert, and a working and performing acrobat. I hope you enjoy this blog as much as I am going to enjoy taking all of these fun and exciting classes. So, jump on the Miss Fit Madness roller coaster and enjoy the ride.

Krank Up Your Fitness

I had a great morning this morning. I could have slept in and decided to get my workouts done early. So, I got myself out of bed at 5:45 am and headed over to take a Krank Fusion class. Johnny G the creator of the indoor cycling program Spinning developed this amazing hand bike program called Kranking. This class was a combination of Kranking and Indoor Cycling. As you know this blog evaluates all classes based on 3 criteria Safety, Effectiveness & Fun. Of course prior to taking any class we all have preconceived ideas of what that  class is going to be about and I am no exception. My thought were...my upper body is going to get overworked, this equipment is just so complicated, oh and will I be able to get my heart rate up with my arms like I do with my legs. The difference between me and most people is that I could care less what my preconceived ideas are I evaluate classes for exactly what they are.

1. Safety - I have a terrible flair up of bursitis in my right elbow so honestly I was dreading this class. I also have tendinitis in my shoulder from being a competitive swimmer most of my life. (you might not have known that little fact about me); This class is really safe. On a scale of 1 - 5 I give it a 5. It had no effect on my shoulder or elbow. The safety is built into the equipment and built into the training that the instructors go through. She rocked!!!

2. Effectiveness - This class was great to evaluate the effectiveness of Kranking  because I am a really experience indoor cycling instructor, certified in multiple teaching methods of indoor cycling, and it incorporated both the Krank cycle and traditional indoor cycle. The reactiveness of my heart rate was exactly the same from the intervals on the Krank cycle and the traditional cycle. So on a scale of  1 to 5 for effectiveness I give it a 5.

3. Fun - Fun means so many different things to so many people and what we generally compare against is the other things we do to workout that are fun, so that is what I am going to do here. Remember on a weekly basis I participate in Pole Dancing and Acrobatics, Lap Dancing, Indoor Cycling, Bootcamp, etc. I really loved this class and I had a lot of fun, but was it fun compared to the other things I do in a week. The instructor made it fun but also the equipment was fun. So on a scale of 1 to 5 I give it a 4. The 4 is for 2 reasons; I love, love, love music and I found myself the entire class wanting the class to be taught to the music and on the down beat of the music, or using the music to establish the intervals. For instance if it is a 4 minute sprint this class used time so we transitioned from bike to Krank cycle in the middle of a song. I would have loved it to be a song per equipment, but that is really just personal preference and differences in teaching style. The only other thing I found was when I was on the Krank cycle and tried to Krank on the down beat of the music I lost resistance but I couldn't put any more resistance on because my heart rate was too high. But don't get me wrong a 4 is great on my scale. I really loved this class.

So all in all Krank Fusion was a kick ass hit and it scored a 14 out of 15.

I want to thank Ayla for hosting me and for more information on Krank Fusion...go to Krank-Up Your Fitness, Krank Fusion classes are offered Wed @ 6 pm and Fri @ 7 am at the Center for Active Aging at the CSULB Big Blue Pyramid. Ciao for Now!!! Sharon Out!!!
